Beginning in 1971 a badge engineered version of the Dodge Dart Swinger two door hardtop called the Valiant Scamp was offered. It used the Dart Swinger body shell with Valiant front sheet metal and dual taillamps carried over from the 1970 Valiant. The Duster and the Dodge Demon, as sporty versions of the compact, were by then important parts of the family. It gave Plymouth a hardtop coupe again after the 1967 redesign had removed the Valiant hardtops.
