The 1971 El Camino got fresh front end styling, again shared with the Chevelle, which included large Power Beam single unit headlights, a reworked grille and bumper and integral park, signal and marker lights. Mandated lower octane unleaded fuel required a reduction in engine compression, engine offerings ran from the 250 six to the 454 big block, and the rebadged GMC Sprint debuted in 1971. The 1971 car also shared its Power Beam headlights with the Chevelle, and its horsepower ratings ranged from 145 for the six to 365 for the RPO LS5 454, all in gross figures.
