The Tempest name was retired after 1970, replaced by the T-37 as the base model, which in turn gave way to the LeMans name in 1972. Other than the elimination of vent windows on hardtop coupes, styling only received minor revisions for 1969, when the Tempest Custom was renamed the Custom S for that one year. The 1970 car was the last Tempest of the third generation. The 1970 car was the last of the original Tempest name.
