For 1970 Lincoln introduced a redesigned Continental, in a two door, a four door and the Continental Town Car, which was sold only as a four door and distinguished by a vinyl roof. This fifth generation, which ran from 1970 to 1979, was sold in two versions with a major revision in 1975. It was the sole Lincoln model line from 1961 to 1976, apart from the Mark series that were separate cars, and it rode on a chassis shared with the Mark III.
