The 1969 restyle added heft: the body grew longer by nearly four inches, quad headlamps were fitted, and the fastback was now called the SportsRoof. The year introduced the Mach 1 and the Boss 302 and Boss 429 models, built to meet Trans Am and NASCAR rules, and a luxury Grande hardtop. The plain GT was dropped because the Mach 1 outsold it, and Shelby Mustangs came under Ford's own control that year.
