For 1968 the front fascia of the Monterey underwent a minor restyle, again modeled after the Lincoln Continental, with larger parking lamp lenses and the front fender vents deleted. The 410 V8 was dropped, a 280 horsepower version of the 390 was introduced, and the 428 was detuned to 340 horsepower. It was the last year of the 1965 body and chassis, with a 123 inch wheelbase. The Monterey was the base trim full size Mercury sedan on a 123 inch wheelbase.
