The changes for 1968 were relatively subtle. The 4 barrel 273 was replaced on the options list by a 340 V8 of 275 horsepower, available only in the 1968 to 1972 Swinger and the performance oriented GTS. The press release said Dodge wanted to make a factory built and ready drag racer from the 1968 Dart GTS hardtop for class B Super Stock. The GTS came standard with the 340 V8 and a 300 horsepower 383 big block was optional, so the Dart could be had as a strong drag car.
