The 1966 Furys kept the same profile as the 1965 cars with a split front and rear grille motif. To compete with plush models such as the Ford Galaxie 500 LTD and the Chevrolet Impala Caprice, Plymouth introduced a luxury edition of the Fury called the VIP, marketed in 1966 as the very important Plymouth. The VIP luxury edition was marketed in 1966 as the very important Plymouth, and was a response to the Ford LTD, the Chevrolet Caprice and the AMC Ambassador DPL.
