In September 1966 the engine of the 1000 was changed to the KE44 1.1 liter water cooled four cylinder OHV engine and the car became the Colt 1100, to differentiate it from the Datsun Sunny that had appeared with 1.0 liter, about a month before the Toyota Corolla with its plus 100 cc margin. In December 1966 the Colt 1500 Sports Sedan was added with the 1100 body and the 1500 engine of 70 PS, with the first front disc brakes of Mitsubishi.
