For 1966 the Mustang kept its shape but picked up a revised grille, new side trim, wheel covers and a different gas cap, and a slotted grille replaced the honeycomb pattern of 1965. A three speed automatic called Cruise-O-Matic, the C4, could now be ordered with the 225 horsepower V8. Ford built 25,517 cars with the GT equipment group that year, against 15,079 the year before, and the hardtop, convertible and fastback body styles were all still offered.
