The Sambar of 1965 was in its fifth and last year of the first generation, a rear engine, rear wheel drive cabover truck and van with a ladder frame, torsion bar trailing arm rear suspension and front doors that were rear hinged, as on the Subaru 360. It was the second Kei truck, after the Kurogane, and it would be redesigned in January 1966. The Sambar has used a rear engine, rear wheel drive layout with body on frame rather than unibody construction.
