The Mazda B series pickup truck was introduced in Japan in August 1961 as the B1500, with the model code BUA61. The B series began life primarily as a commercial vehicle slotted above a kei truck in size. Mazda's first four wheeled trucks included the 1958 D1100, briefly called the Mazda Romper. Through its association with Ford, Mazda produced the B series as the Ford Courier and the Ford Ranger. In Japan the B series was referred to as the Mazda Proceed for much of its production.
