In 1960 the manufacturer's recommended retail price of the 100E Popular was 494 pounds, equivalent to 26 weeks' worth of the average UK wage, and the Popular continued through 1961 as the cheapest orthodox saloon in Britain. It used the superseded 100E Anglia body shell with a strengthened 36 horsepower, 1172 cc side valve engine, hydraulic brakes with 8 inch drums all round, and 1,000 mile service intervals. The Popular 100E was a basic budget car from Ford UK, often called the Ford Pop.
