The P5 appeared in September 1958, badged as the 3 litre, as a major step ahead for Rover: a large luxury saloon with a 3 liter version of Rover's six cylinder inlet over exhaust engine carried forward from the P4 series. It was a car that had an automatic transmission, overdrive on the manual and Burman power steering as options, with the P4 series being supplemented by it that September. It was built by Rover as a larger car than the P4.
