The Bonneville became a separate model in 1958, available as a two door hardtop or a convertible, and as a separate model it had a significantly lower price tag of 3,586 dollars for the convertible, because most luxury items found on the 1957 Star Chief bodystyle moved to the option list. The fuel injection system was an extra cost option of 500 dollars, so few 1958 Bonnevilles were so equipped, only about 400 before it was quietly dropped, and General Motors promoted its fiftieth year with anniversary models.
