The Morris Major and Austin Lancer were introduced in March 1958 as DO1101, developed from the Wolseley 1500 and Riley One-Point-Five then sold in Britain. The Major, the Lancer and the Wolseley 1500 were produced at the Victoria Park plant of BMC Australia at Zetland in Sydney and were unique to that country, with a very high local content. The design had begun as a possible replacement for the Morris Minor at Longbridge.
