The 1958 Commuter continued as the lowest priced of the Mercury station wagons, in two door and four door hardtop form. From 1957 until 1960 all Mercury station wagons were hardtops, and they also offered a rear window that retracted into the tailgate, which was not offered on Ford branded station wagons. The two door wagon was selling only slowly, with just over 7,600 sold over the 1957 to 1959 period. Its trim lacked the woodgrain panels of the Colony Park.
