When introduced for the 1957 model year the Commuter was priced below the other two new full size Mercury wagons, as part of the Monterey series beside the mid range Voyager and the top level Colony Park. It was available as a two door and a four door hardtop wagon. The 368 cubic inch Lincoln Y block V8 that was standard on the Turnpike Cruiser was optional equipment on the Commuter. It was the lowest priced of the Mercury wagons, below the Colony Park.
