The Continental Mark II went on sale for the 1956 model year after its debut at the Paris Motor Show in October 1955, as an ultra luxury coupe from Ford's new Continental Division. It was the first and only product of that division, and its price of 9,966 dollars made it the dearest American car. The Continental Mark II was a hand assembled luxury coupe built by Ford at Allen Park in Michigan in small numbers. It was marketed against Rolls Royce and Bentley as an American flagship, with a Lincoln V8 engine.
