The Willys CJ-3B replaced the CJ-3A in 1953, the same year Willys-Overland was bought by Kaiser Motors, and the Kaiser parent company removed Overland from the name of the Willys Motors subsidiary. The CJ-3B introduced a higher grille and hood to clear the new Willys Hurricane engine, which gave it a taller front end than its predecessor, and Mitsubishi began building its own version in 1953 under license, a production that continued until 1998.
