The first Austin Princess, the A120, was launched in 1947 as the most expensive flagship of the Austin range, at the same time as the A110 Sheerline. Austin made two almost identical chassis: the Sheerline body was built entirely by Austin at Longbridge, while the Princess chassis went to the Vanden Plas works at Kingsbury in north London, which made the body. The original engine was a 3.5 liter straight six.
