Triplex safety glass was fitted to all front screens of the Austin Sixteen from March 1929. The car was by then in its second year on the market, with a six cylinder engine that was new in 1927 and a wide range of body types. For the 1929 Motor Show Austin's cars were reported to have chromium plated exterior fittings, the Sixteen being the six cylinder medium sized model in the range. The Sixteen had a six cylinder engine larger than that of the Twelve.
