The Model A was first produced on 20 October 1927 but not introduced until 2 December, and was designated a 1928 model. It replaced the Model T that had been in production for eighteen years, after the T's sagging market share finally forced Henry Ford to admit that a replacement was needed. The 1928 car had a 201 cubic inch four of 40 horsepower and a top speed of about 65 miles per hour, with a three speed sliding gear manual transmission.
