Freight Rover 200-300

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Freight Rover 200-300 was a range of light commercial vans sold from 1982 to 1989 by Freight Rover, the commercial vehicle division of the Land Rover group within the Austin Rover Group that appeared in 1981 when British Leyland was split up. It grew out of the Leyland Sherpa: the revised Sherpa K2 of 1982 added a Range Rover style grille, a larger sliding door that let a Euro pallet be loaded crosswise, a longer wheelbase giving 9.3 cubic metres of load space, a factory LPG conversion and a four-wheel-drive option. A facelift in 1984 brought new headlamps, bumpers and dashboard and renamed the range Freight Rover 200, with a 13 cubic metre Freight Rover 300 high-capacity version that replaced the Leyland EA and could take a 2.5 litre diesel or, for police and emergency services, a Rover 3.5 litre V8 with automatic gearbox. An electric Sherpa was also built with Lucas Chloride. When Freight Rover was merged into Leyland DAF the model became the Leyland DAF 200-400.
