Freight Rover

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Freight Rover was the single light van brand that British Leyland created in 1981 inside its Land Rover Group, replacing the Leyland and Austin-Morris badges on its light commercial range. Its only product line was the Sherpa family of panel vans, essentially face-lifted, badge-engineered versions of the first-generation Leyland Sherpa, built at Washwood Heath in Birmingham. The brand fell under Leyland Trucks, merged into Leyland DAF in 1987, and the van plant became the independent LDV Group after the DAF collapse of 1993.
