An upmarket audio system, until then exclusive to the GL1500SE, was fitted to the 1996 Aspencade. Mid 1996 saw a Gold Wing Aspencade become the millionth American built Honda motorcycle to come off the line at the Marysville Motorcycle Plant, and in May 1996 Honda built the first GL1500C Valkyrie, for the 1997 model year, the first naked GL since 1984. The last GL1500I Interstate was the 1996 model.
