A mid-life facelift, the usual one for a generation, was applied to the Accord during 1995 to make the 1996 model. More rounded bumpers, a slightly modified front fascia that had been exclusive to the 1995 V6 models, new signal lights and rear taillamps gave the car a softer look, and all Hondas now complied with the federal OBD II engine diagnostics requirement while the three engine choices stayed the same. The U.S. lineup included the 25th Anniversary Edition, positioned between the DX and LX, and the Special Edition trim package was introduced. In New Zealand a facelift was released in December 1995 with VTEC engines in the upper spec models.
