United Launch Alliance, usually shortened to ULA, is an American launch service provider formed in December 2006 as a joint venture between Lockheed Martin Space and Boeing Defense, Space and Security. It designs, assembles, sells and launches rockets, relying on engines, solid rocket boosters and other major components supplied by other companies. When it was founded it took over the Atlas V rocket from Lockheed Martin and the Delta family of rockets from Boeing. The Delta family was retired in 2024, the Atlas V is being retired, and the Vulcan Centaur, developed from 2014 as the successor to both, flew for the first time in January 2024. Its main customers are the United States Department of Defense and NASA, with some commercial clients. Production is consolidated in Decatur, Alabama, and engineering in Littleton, Colorado.
