Hino is the commercial vehicle marque of Hino Motors, a Japanese maker of trucks, buses and diesel engines headquartered in the city of Hino in Tokyo. The company traces its predecessor to Tokyo Gas Industry, set up in 1910, and it was established as a corporate spin-off under the name Hino Heavy Industry in 1942. Hino built passenger cars from 1953, but only through the 1950s and 1960s, with the 4CV, the Briska and the Contessa as examples, before it concentrated on commercial vehicles. In 1991 it released the world's first commercially available hybrid transit bus. A business alliance with Toyota in 1966 grew into a Toyota subsidiary in 2001, and in 2026 Hino merged with Fuso under the new holding company Archion.
