Hawker Siddeley was a British aircraft group formed in 1935 by the merger of Hawker Aircraft and Armstrong Siddeley, which later absorbed Avro, Gloster, de Havilland and others. Its products included the Hurricane and Typhoon fighters, the Lancaster, Vulcan and Trident, and the Harrier jump jet. In 1977 the group was nationalised and merged into British Aerospace. The group was among the largest British aerospace employers of its time, and its work covered fighters, bombers, airliners and military trainers in addition to missiles and engines.
