Aérospatiale

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Aérospatiale was a French state-owned aerospace and defence corporation, formed in 1970 as Société Nationale Industrielle Aérospatiale by merging Nord Aviation, SEREB and Sud Aviation. It was one of the largest aerospace firms in the world and Europe's biggest general aeronautics manufacturer, building civil and military aircraft and helicopters, launch vehicles and satellites, and missiles. It took part in the Concorde, the Ariane launchers and the Airbus A300. In 1992 it combined its helicopter division with that of Germany's DASA to form Eurocopter, in 1999 its satellite arm went to Alcatel and the rest merged with Matra to make Aérospatiale-Matra, which joined DASA and CASA in 2000 to form EADS, later renamed Airbus.
