The first span of the XR series begins with the twin-shock XR500 of 1979, the first XR model, with a four-stroke, four-valve OHC engine of 497 cc and an unusual 23 inch front wheel. It continued with the XR200 of 1980, the Pro-Link single-shock XR500 and XR200R of 1981, the XR350R of 1983 and the Radial Four Valve Chamber engine that arrived on the XR250R in 1984. Wikipedia does not number XR generations, so this page groups model years by the dates the article documents. Each model year has its own page.
