In 1965 the TR4A superseded the TR4, with the arrival of the TR4A bringing a revised chassis and independent rear suspension. Perhaps the greatest racing victory for the TR4A was at Daytona, where a Kastner prepared car driven by Charlie Gates won the 1965 SCCA D modified championship against Ferraris and other prepared race car exotica. The TR4A had independent rear suspension. The TR4A superseded the TR4 that year, a revised chassis car with a body designed by Michelotti.
