Triumph unveiled the Dolomite Sprint in June 1973, although the launch had been delayed by a year, since it was due to go on sale in 1972, to remedy the performance advantage that competitors such as the BMW 2002 had over the Dolomite. The gearbox and differential were replaced by a version of those fitted to the TR and 2000 series cars, and the first 2,000 cars were finished in Mimosa yellow. The Sprint had a 16 valve engine.
