The first generation of the Sprinter Trueno and Corolla Levin was the high performance models of the Corolla and Sprinter two door fastback coupe, introduced in March 1972. Another update was introduced in April 1973 with the less powerful J, for Junior, model powered by an OHV twin carburettor version of the 2T-G engine called the 2T-B. The 2T-G was the DOHC twin cam engine that gave the TE27 its performance.
