Another update was introduced in April 1973 with the introduction of the less powerful J, for Junior, model, powered by an OHV twin carburettor version of the 2T-G engine called the 2T-B and shared with the lower priced Corolla. The TE27 remained the first generation. It was the last model year covered for the Toyota Sprinter Trueno (TE27 series), 1972 to 1973, and the Toyota Sprinter Trueno (TE37 to TE65 series) came next, following the 1972 model year.
