A new limited edition model for the Trueno GT-APEX called the GT-APEX Limited was offered in January 1990, with a production run of 2000 units. The 1990 model year updated the 4A-GE engine of the GT-S to the smallport version, producing 132 PS. It was the last model year covered for the Toyota Sprinter Trueno (AE91 and AE92 series), 1987 to 1990, and the Toyota Sprinter Trueno (AE100 and AE101 series) came next, following the 1989 model year.
