The fourth generation of the Sprinter Trueno and Corolla Levin, the AE85 and AE86, was released in May 1983 and offered in two door coupe and three door liftback body styles. Minor bodywork changes were made in May 1985, including different taillights and updated bumpers with wrap around front indicators. In January 1986 Toyota marketed a Black Limited edition of the AE86, limited to 400 units and based on the Sprinter Trueno GT-APEX three door liftback.
