In March 2000, for the US 2001 model year, the MR2 Spyder was introduced into the United States and Europe in a single monospec level equal to the Japanese S trim. In October 2000 it was introduced in Australia with a five speed SMT only. This was the first model year of the Toyota MR2 (third generation, W30), 2000 to 2007, which took over from the Toyota MR2 (second generation, W20); the 2001 model year follows it.
