The 4.0 liter 3F-E EFI petrol engine was introduced in 1987 alongside the 4.0 liter 3F carburettor engine, and the FJ62G VX-Series was introduced, allowing the Land Cruiser to be sold in Japan as a passenger vehicle. In US specifications the 3F-E produces 155 horsepower. It was the last model year covered for the Toyota Land Cruiser (70 series, J70), 1984 to 1989, and the Toyota Land Cruiser (80 series, J80) came next, following the 1986 model year.
