The Hilux started production in March 1968 as the RN10 in short wheelbase form with a 1.5 liter inline four engine. The name Hilux is, according to Toyota, a portmanteau of the words High Luxury, and it was considered luxurious only compared to the spartan, heavy duty Stout. This was the first model year of the Toyota Hilux (first generation, N10), 1968 to 1971, the first generation covered for the Toyota Hilux; the 1969 model year follows it. Model year pages for the Toyota Hilux run from 1968 to 2026.
