The Hilux was reintroduced in Japan on 12 September 2017, after 13 years of hiatus. A minor redesign of the Hilux was unveiled in November 2017 in Thailand, and in March 2017 the TRD appearance package became available in Australia. It was model year 3 of 10 in the Toyota Hilux (eighth generation, AN110, AN120 and AN130), 2015 to 2024, coming after the 2016 model year and before the 2018 model year.
