The S120 of 1983 offered three versions of the 5M 2.8 liter six, the carbureted 5M, the fuel injected 5M-E and the twin cam 5M-GE, along with smaller engines. In September 1985 a supercharged two liter G series six took the place of the turbocharged M series, an engine change that kept the Crown in step with Japan's tax rules on engine size. It followed the sixth generation, whose first turbo model of October 1980 had been sold in Japan only, and it was replaced by the S130 in 1987.
