The S140 hardtop of 1991 left the traditional Crown look behind and introduced the Royal Touring trim, while the older sedan, wagon and van were restyled in August 1991 but kept the S130 code. A Prestige Saloon series and an Owners Prestige series for the Royal Touring came in January 1993 as special editions, and a facelifted model was released later that year. The S140 carried over the 1G-FE two liter twin cam engine from the eighth generation in its sedan and wagon.
