The S220 went on sale on 26 June 2018, equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 as was most of the 2018 Toyota range. On 1 August 2018 Toyota and Toyota City started Japan's first road maintenance inspection tests using vehicle data from connected cars. This was the first model year of the Toyota Crown (fifteenth generation, S220), 2018 to 2021, which took over from the Toyota Crown (fourteenth generation, S210); the 2019 model year follows it.
