For June 1991 the Corolla became larger and heavier and took on the fully rounded, aerodynamic shape typical of the 1990s. In the United States it now counted as a compact rather than a subcompact, and carburetors were mostly retired. The pillared hardtop Corolla Ceres and Sprinter Marino arrived in 1992, the North American car was new for the 1993 model year, and the sedan and hatchbacks were replaced in 1995 while the wagons and commercial vans carried on in Japan until 2002.
