The Brevis was launched with sales starting in June 2001 and was produced for six years before being discontinued in June 2007. It represented the market segment previously served in Japan by the Toyota Carina ED, and its marketing approach was shared with a Vista Store sedan, the Toyota Verossa, which used a different platform. Two engine sizes were offered so that Japanese buyers could choose which annual road tax they were willing to pay.
