The Italdesign sedan reached Japanese showrooms as the Toyota Aristo in October 1991. It was intended to take the price position of the original LS 400 flagship in the Lexus range, which had moved upmarket since its 1989 launch. This was the first model year of the Toyota Aristo (first generation, S140), 1991 to 1996, the first generation covered for the Toyota Aristo; the 1992 model year follows it.
