A special 30th Anniversary version of the Alcyone VX was produced in 1988, limited to 30 units. The XT of 1988 was in its fourth year, a 2+2 coupe with a front mounted engine and either front wheel drive or all wheel drive, with the XT6 six cylinder model and a height adjustable pneumatic suspension. The XT's exterior design team was led by Kiyoshi Sugimoto, with the interior team led by Hiroshi Yako. Subaru's trademark boxer engine enabled the pronounced wedge shape of the bodywork.
