The Sambar of 1975 was in its third year of the third generation, with the water cooled two stroke engine of 356 cc and 28 PS. It was a cabover truck and van, and the Goriki Sambar would soon get the four stroke engine of the Rex, to reduce emissions, in February 1976. Four wheel drive became optional in 1980. The Sambar has used a rear engine, rear wheel drive layout with body on frame rather than unibody construction.
